It Gets Better

Spirit Day, the day where we remember victims of schoolyard bullying, particularly of the LGBT community.

Schoolyard bullying is much different now than it used to be, as Miss Morrison knows, who has witnessed some incidents in her class, and who herself has had brushes with bullying as a kid.
Because incidents can now carry over into the Internet, and spill into other schools, public humiliation can be amplified to an overwhelming degree, which has caused some victims to take their own lives. One recent case was with fellow Western New Yorker, Jason Rodemeyer, who continued to face harrassment even after he died.
Legislation against bullying is still a work in progress. Even worse than the loss of the victims themselves is the chance that some probably weren't LGBT to begin with. It's just a harsh reminder of the ongoing savagery of the human race.
